At the beginning of each student’s time at The Learning Center, we have a meeting with the student to conduct a Self-Sufficiency Intake Interview. This lets us know if the student has issues outside of education that need to be addressed so they can focus on education when they’re in class. At one of these interviews, a student mentioned issues with child support and was afraid jail was in his future because of back-pay owed. We were able to connect him to a legal non-profit in town who helped him sort out payments for what was owed and arrange future payments based on his current (not previous) income. As a result, that student stayed out of prison, was able to continue supporting his family, and has now passed the first section of the GED. We are so proud of the strides he made this semester. He will be the first to tell you that it’s all thanks to God’s work and grace in his life. We couldn’t agree more!
